Aimed at those
currently managing or planning
to manage woodland, this course
covers both practical and theoretical
aspects of managing a small wood.
The extended two day format allows
for a more in-depth, applied approach
that will include preparing an
outline management plan and Woodland
Grant Scheme Application for an
area of local woodland. You will
be shown a variety of approaches
for producing a management plan,
including the format used by the
Forestry Commission.
The two day
format for this course will be
based partly in the Woodland
College at the Green Wood Centre
and partly
in the Ironbridge Gorge woodlands,
an area that, with its rich heritage
and chequered past, is fascinating
and holds many challenges.
There
will be an opportunity with
this course to gain a qualification
at Level 3 with the Open College
Network. The taught element
will
be covered over the weekend
and then you will be required to
submit a piece of written work
for assessment.Jim
Waterson is senior lecturer
in
rural affairs at Harper Adams
University College and former
manager of Severn
Gorge Countryside Trust.
