Hedge laying
is the art of cutting a stem partly
through so that it will bend without
breaking and will continue to grow.
This makes the hedge stock-proof
without additional fencing and
prolongs the life of the hedge.
Hedges that have been laid over
generations form an important aesthetic
element within the British landscape
and support biodiversity. Karl
Liebscher has been laying hedges
for over 20 years and is now Shropshire’s
best known hedge-layer. He can
‘cut’ in a variety of styles including
Midland, Welsh Border, Derby and
Cheshire.
