Hedge laying is the art of cutting a stem partly through so that it will bend without breaking and will continue to grow. This makes the hedge stock-proof without additional fencing and prolongs the life of the hedge. Hedges that have been laid over generations form an important aesthetic element within the British landscape and support biodiversity.
